Early Care for Puppies and Kittens

Get your pet's life off on the right start with preventive care and vaccinations from Northwest Animal Hospital.

Before your puppy or kitten is exposed to other pets, a complete examination for congenital problems and infectious diseases is highly recommended. Our examination will also help us set a schedule for vaccinations and give you a chance to discuss proper pet care with our staff and to get answers to any questions you have. Call today.

Recommended Vaccines and Exams

In most cases, puppies and kittens should receive a series of vaccines starting at 6 to 8 weeks of age and continuing every 3 weeks until they are between 14 and 16 weeks old. At the same time, our staff will conduct a fecal exam and deworming for intestinal parasites.

For kittens, additional tests for Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) will be conducted through simple bloodwork.

A Lifetime of Attentive Care

As your pet matures, annual physical examinations will provide early detection and treatment of problems.

At each annual visit, we will keep your pet up-to-date on vaccinations, fecal exams, heartworm testing and we'll also dispense preventive medications.

Special Care for Senior Cats and Dogs

As we focus on the problems of your senior companions, we schedule geriatric exams as needed. These exams may include procedures such as lab work, EKGs, and x-rays, all designed to help us diagnose common geriatric conditions.

  • Kidney failure
  • Thyroid disorders
  • Diabetes
  • Anemia and others

Early diagnosis and treatment can result in a longer, better quality of life for your pet. We offer three levels of geriatric pet exams. Please call (402) 572-1280 for details.
